I is a SUMMONER!

Hey guys, last night I decided to go ahead and FINALLY get summoning. I had been back and forth over the fence on whether to train it or not. For the longest time, I had been opposed to summoning. I thought that since I had gotten this far without it, I would never need it. It's safe to say I was being a little ignorant and intolerant of this "new" skill. My biggest problem with it was it raised combat levels. Well, in the end, I decided the pros outweighed the cons and decided to train it.

First off let me say, summoning is a huge money drainer. I've already invested a few mil and I've hardly scratched the surface. Yes, I do know you can trade in pouches to get back 70% of spirit shards... In one night, I went from 1-60 summoning. This brought my combat to be 106 (98+8) and propelled me way into the 1900 level club. In total, I used about 3k gold charms, 850 green charms, 330 crimson charms, and about 80 blue charms. So far, I like this new change.

In other news, I used tears of guthix to get me from 32 to 35 dungeoneering since that is now my lowest level. I may work on this skill in the days to come.

91 Fishing

Hey all! When I went F2P about a month ago, I was only around 130k off 91 fishing.

Just last week, Jagex added a new NPC which is located right near the docks of Musa Point. This NPC can exchange your fish for notes. This makes it possible to fish in F2P worlds and keep all your fish.

This update inspired to go ahead and get level 91. I'll probably continue to fish here until I get bored and return to dungeoneering. Short term goals for dungeoneering include 50+ skill level as well as the coal bag reward to make mining a little easier.

Until next time!

99 Magic and F2P

Hey guys, guess what! I finally made it to 99 magic! Going from 94-99 only took me about 10 days. This was in part due to the bonus EXP weekend where I was able to go from 94 to 96 in only one day! Other than that, I am F2P right now. I will probably remain F2P for several months. During this time frame, I plan on doing a fair bit of merchanting as well as working on some F2P skills. I'll probably be working on firemaking, mining, and maybe a little bit of fishing.

98 Magic!

Reached level 98 Magic on Saturday! As of right now, I'm only 250k EXP off 99 Magic! This will be my 5th 99 on this account.

In about 4 days, my account will be going F2P. I'm not sure how long I'll be F2P but it will be at least a month. During my F2P days, I plan to work on firemaking and do some side merchanting. I've pretty much liquidated and sold all my valuable P2P items just incase I never get membership back.

After I get 99 magic, I'll try and spend the last of my P2P time pking. My goal is to get enough clips to put together PVP Video #4. If I get enough clips, expect to see this video in about 2 weeks or so.

That's it for now. Hope everyone has a great week!

1 down, 2 to go!

Almost to 99 magic! I'm about 400k off 98 magic right now! I also got 73 craft as a side effect of the string jewelry spell!

Levels from Bonus EXP Weekend

I rather enjoyed Bonus EXP weekend. As I type, there is still about 16 hours left but I'm down to the 1.1x multiplier. The first thing I did when I logged in was make about 500 super restore potions using the avantoes I farmed. This got me from 68 to 70 herblore in about 20-25 minutes. I then headed to the circus in Lumbridge and got around 100k EXP in about 3 minutes with the 2.5x multiplier. The high wire circus event also brought me to 71 agility. Next, I headed to the Falador bank and began the long process of stringing jewelry. I was getting great EXP per cast with the 2.3x and 2.1x multipliers. This eventually died down to the 1.1x multiplier. I was able to get from 94 to 96 magic on Friday (the first day of the bonus EXP) which was crazy. All the crafting EXP added up and was able to get to 72 crafting. I should have a video out by tonight or tomorrow showcasing all the levels I got through the bonus EXP weekend. Can't wait for the next EXP weekend!

Plans for Bonus Weekend

Hey guys, just recently Jagex has announced that they will be holding their first ever Bonus EXP Weekend. I, like many others, plan to take advantage of this update. I thought I would share some of my plans with some of my readers so you can get an ideal of what I'll be doing.

First off, I want to mention that the double EXP really only lasts for the first 3 hours you log in during the weekend. If you take a look at the graph, you can see that it starts at 2.9X EXP and slowly declines to 1.1X EXP over a period of about 10 hours. I recommend everyone plan their time accordingly or you will be wasting this great opportunity.

Obviously, there will be an emphasis on the skills that cost the most money. A few examples of these would be construction, magic, herblore, summoning among others. As Jagex mentioned, there will be an increase in aggregate demand in the 2 or so weeks leading up to this event. My recommendation to everyone is to start stockpiling supplies NOW if you have not already done so. In the days before the weekend, I believe most items in the GE will be nearly impossible to buy.

As far as personal plans go, I'll be training herblore and magic during this weekend. Right now, I'm farming avantoes and saving them in my bank. Using the avantoes, I'll make about 500 super energy potions as soon as I log in. This will bring me from 68-70 herblore. After that, I'll be stringing jewlrey using the astrals and gold amulets I have been buying. I hope to possibly get from 94 to 97 or so magic. Even though I won't have the 2X multiplier the whole weekend, the 1.1X bonus will still save me some money.

Onto further plans, magic will most likely be my next 99. I'm pretty sure I've got the bank to do it and I've always really enjoyed the cape. For those unfamiliar with my account, this will be my 5th 99. From there on, I'm still not completely positive on what 99 number 6 will be.

To conclude, I hope everyone takes advantage of this double EXP weekend. Who knows if Jagex will continue this or if this will be the only one. Buy supplies early and plan ahead to make the best out of this opportunity.

Best of luck to everyone!

Runescape Bonus EXP Weekend!

Runescape Bonus EXP Weekend

On the weekend of the 12th of March 2010, we will be running a "bonus XP weekend" for RuneScape members. This has been officially announced in our newsletter (if you haven't already, then sign up for it here).

We've put together this blog as more of an FAQ to answer any questions about the weekend and we will be around on the forums to answer any questions that come up.

What exactly is a bonus XP weekend?

As the name implies, there will be the opportunity over the weekend of the 12th of March to gain extra XP for standard training activities

When will this be happening?

Between the hours of 12:00PM GMT on Friday 12th March and 12:00PM GMT Monday 15th March (so, all of that Saturday and Sunday). These times are a rough estimate, but we will put a news post out as soon as the event starts.

I don't use GMT! Tell me what time this will be in my country.

Here's an idea of times in different areas:
EST - 07:00 AM Friday 12th to 07:00 AM Monday 15th
PST - 04:00 AM Friday 12th to 04:00 AM Monday 15th
Australia - 23:00 PM Friday 12th to 23:00 PM Monday 15th
CET 12:00 PM Friday 12th to 12:00 PM Monday 15th
Brazil (east) - 09:00 AM Friday 12th to 09:00 PM Monday 15th

For more information, please use the handy and helpful Time Conversion Thread.

How does the bonus XP work?

When you initially log in on the weekend, you will gain approx 2.7x XP for all "normal training" activities (see the question below for a list). While you are logged in, a timer will be running over the time you are logged into the game. Over time, the bonus will decrease to a minimum of 1.1x your usual rate.

Your XP rate will be shown in-game over the course of the weekend, and you will have access to an interface showing a running total of the extra XP you have earned (over what you would have normally earned) as well as the amount of time you have logged in. Your bonus XP rate will NOTdecrease when you are not logged into the game, so do not feel pressured to play continuously.

What activities will earn me bonus XP?

Normal training activities will earn you the bonus XP. Every fight, log cut or hunter trap you lay will grant you a multiple of the XP it would normally give.

Typical training activities for each skill (not an exhaustive list):

  • Attack and Strength - melee combat
  • Ranged - ranged combat, Circus
  • Magic - magic combat and other spell casting (e.g. enchanting jewellery, alchemy, teleporting), Circus
  • Defence and Hitpoints - from all forms of combat
  • Agility - completing courses, using shortcuts, Circus
  • Construction - building furniture in your POH
  • Cooking - cooking food on range/fire/spit
  • Crafting - crafting pots, armour, jewellery, battlestaves, blowing glass
  • Farming - weeding, planting/harvesting crops, checking tree health
  • Firemaking - lighting fires, burning evil tree roots, lighting beacons
  • Fishing - catching fish
  • Fletching - fletching bows/arrows/crossbows/bolts, etc
  • Herblore - cleaning herbs, mixing potions
  • Hunter - setting/checking traps, butterfly/bird/impling catching, falconry
  • Mining - mining ores/gems, mining shooting stars
  • Prayer - burying bones
  • Runecrafting - crafting runes at any altar, combination runes
  • Slayer - doing Slayer tasks
  • Smithing - smelting ores, smithing metal bars
  • Summoning - infusing pouches, summoning familiars
  • Thieving - pickpocketing, thieving from chests/stalls
  • Woodcutting - cutting trees/evil trees

What is the specific calculation for my modifier?

WARNING: Maths below.

The calculation for this is as follows:
If you put this into a graphics calculator or even Wolfram Alpha you will see a parabolic curve. It has a nice smooth reduction over time. At 10+ hours we set the multiplier to be 1.1 (the tangent of this equation).

We hope any of you that are studying maths will get a kick out of knowing the internal calculations we are doing to get the value of your multiplier, and of discussing it on the forums.

What activities will NOT earn me bonus XP?

  • Quest XP rewards
  • Items that give XP (e.g. genie lamps, tomes of experience)
  • XP rewards at the end of minigames (e.g. Tears of Guthix, Soul Wars, Pest Control)
  • Anything which allows point exchange for XP (e.g. Penguin Points, Brimhaven Agility Arena tickets, Slayer incentives, Mrs Winkin's World of Seeds shop from Vinesweeper, jade vine)

Can I use my clay items, Penance horn, brawling gloves, etc, to add to my bonus XP?

These items will not work during the weekend as the effects of the bonus XP weekend will override any other items or areas that enhance XP rates. The item will not degrade when used during the bonus XP weekend. This includes clay items, Penance horns, brawling gloves, flame gloves/ring of fire, Fishing/Runecrafting/dragon slayer gloves and POH altars.

Why are you running this?

It's an idea we've had for a while (and we’re obviously not the first gaming company to think of it; many online games have bonus XP weekends). We wanted to give people a chance to do training on existing skills before we launch the new one (note: this isn't a teaser for the skill's release date).

I'm not around that weekend. Will I be able to use my quota another time?

No. The bonus XP effects will only be available over this weekend.

What happens if I miss out

Don't worry. If this event goes well, then we will likely be running further bonus XP weekends.

Why is this members-only?

Future bonus XP events may well be opened up to free players as well, but we're waiting to see how this one works before making that decision.

But what if I don't want to play for the whole weekend?

The ideal time for training with bonus XP is during your first few hours of in-game time over the weekend - the diminishing returns means that once you’ve played for more than 10 hours you will no longer be getting a significant advantage in your training.

Don’t you think this cheapens training?/I already have 99 in all skills.

We think this is an update which appeals to a wide spectrum of players - from people who have just started out and will welcome a boost, to mid-level players striving for a goal, to high-level players training their last few skills, and even to those maxed-out players who are aiming for the 200 million mark in a skill. As everyone is being given the same opportunity, and that the significant benefit only lasts for ten hours, we do not feel it cheapens anything.

Isn’t this going to ruin the economy?

Ten hours of increased XP isn't going to harm the economy any more than the release of any other new way of training skills. We do expect prices for certain items to rise in the run up to this weekend, but to then naturally level out afterwards. This is one of the reasons we are giving plenty of advance warning.

What will you do to stop merchant clans, etc, taking advantage of this knowledge?

To effectively manipulate a price you need a unique item that doesn't usually have a lot of variation in value. We're expecting demand to go up for certain items in the run up to this update, but this isn't something which can be set by a single agenda as the economy as a whole is going to be up.

Who developed this/who will answer my questions?

Mod Fnord was the technical developer for this project, with Mod Chihiro helping with design andMod Knox being around to answer questions.

Any further questions that we haven’t covered will be edited into this blog entry in time for the bonus XP weekend. We’ll be monitoring the forum thread for the next few days, but please be aware we can’t always give personal answers to questions immediately.

100M Total Experience!

This has been by far my best accomplishment in my RS history. Finally, I've broken 100M total experience! I did this with 45 defence 45 prayer and 1 summoning at 98 combat! I can only go up from here!

60-65 Construction!

The other day I played 4 games of stealing creation and cashed in the points for 4 morphic tools. I changed all the tools into hammers and made oak larders at my house using my demon butler to fletch oak planks out of the bank. I went from 60-65 construction in about one hour!

94 Magic Finally!

After spending around 8M, I've finally reached 94 magic! No longer will I need the aid of magic potions for vengeance!

On another note, all the stringing jewelry leveled me to 71 crafting.

I'll also have a new PVP video released sometime next week.

More levels, oh my!

Right now, I'm stringing jewelry in attempts of getting 94 magic fast. This method is fairly expensive but will be worth the cost.

Like always, I'm using penguins and lamps on herb to get it up to 70. I'm only 2 levels away before I move on to 70 construction then 70 runecrafting.

Lots of New Levels

Just finishing up some levels I was very close to.

94 Range & Hex Crest Drop

Possibly first zerk to get the hexcrest? Also, got 94 range on this task.

I'll be holding on to this and selling when it tops out!

Sorry For The Lack Of Updates!

Like many of you, I've been pretty busy over the last 2 weeks or so. I'll try to get in a better updating habit soon!

This update I got 73 slayer about a week ago and 91 magic yesterday. Right now, I'm alching in PvP worlds aiming for 94 magic. As of now, I'm only 400k off 99 strength. I plan to train the remainder of the strength EXP at Pest Control so I can reattain my void set.

67 Herb/72 Slayer

Still working on my goal of 70 herblore. I'm mainly doing this through penguin points and making prayer potions out of all rannar drops.

I will aslo continue to slay past 99 strength. Once 99 strength is achieved, I will slay with a whip to train attack.

Best TT Reward and 98 Strength

Hey guys, this is going to be a quick update.

Lately, I've been training strength through slayer. The TT reward you see was a clue from a hellhounds task and has been my best reward to date (around 2.4M). I alos achieved 98 strength today leaving me only 1 off from my 4th 99! :)

More 70's!

Awhile back, I set a goal of getting all skills over 70 (excluding summoning, pray, and defence). Today, I mark agility and slayer off that list.

As of now, I only have 3 more skills to complete my goal. Those skills are herblore (66), runecrafting (63), and construction (60). I'll probably finish off herb first since I'm the closest then play a few days of stealing creations to get hammers for 70 construction.

I also achieved 92 hitpoints while slaying meaning I'm now halfway to 99 hp!
